On a muggy July evening a duo of guitar slinging songwriters entered the Mars Cafe. Erik, a proto-Neil Young clicked his harmonica into place, singing songs of true love and patron saints.
Finn Miles solo songwriter Paul Gratton built a mountain of guitar pedals, looping ditties and bellowing songs with ancient souls.
The pictures hardly do the evening justice; use your imagination to fill in the rest!
We pulled out the art supplies and before we knew it pipe cleaner art was everywhere! It turns out that the guys from Why Make Clocks are quite the artists (Pac Man, Star Wars, and other creative elements were bent and formulated by WMC). Also, if you haven’t heard Why Make Clocks plan an acoustic set you’re really missing out; their songs shine in an intimate setting like the Mars Cafe.
Also, congratulations to H. Dustin Harmsen of the Atudes on a wildly successful opening acoustic set, as well as the Atudes CD release…which is tonight!
Oh, what a family! My brother, Scott Gratton is a natural talent. He’s been an asset to Finn Miles, as well as many other bands around the Midwest. Scott is finally starting to get his own splendid tunes out there. This video is from a short set played at the Mars Cafe in October, 2009. Watch this guy…he’s amazing!
