Finn Miles has landed. We’re on the ground in Central Oregon, working on getting the studio set up so we can finish our much anticipated “Winteresque” album. Only vocals and mixing remain.
Now that we have our feet on the ground in the high desert we’re getting plugged in to the local scene. Being a part of the Central Oregon Songwriter’s Association is already a big encouragement. Having events like the Sister’s Folk Festival nearby only solidify the gut feeling that we’ve found our promised land.
Stay tuned…we anticipate a handful of intimate acoustic shows this fall, filled with new songs and a new fire in our bellies.
We’re moving to Oregon, and this is our last show in Iowa…if not forever, at least for a long time. Join us for the festivities at the Mars Cafe on July 16th as we give our fair city a “musical hug” goodbye.
Audience participation – Weiv was used at a Finn Miles concert in Des Moines, Iowa at the Vaudeville Mews. The crowd used Wii controllers to “play” the visuals live with the music.
Weiv is a software platform that uses the expressive power of videogames to enhance live performances. It allows a group of people to become a “visual band” that can create animations to the beat of the music or explore a virtual world. By using motion sensing devices, people can turn the natural urge to move to the music into a collaborative and communal visual performance.
As a band…we’re pumped! Not only for the great music scene, but the topography(including the amazing Smith Rock), perfect for climbing, hiking, and long distance running.
Inspiration…right here. Do research. Follow these bands. Go to their concerts. These are some of the greatest albums, and greatest Singer/Songwriter albums.
Andrew Bird – The Mysterious Production of Eggs
Sufjan Stevens – Michigan
Ray Lamontagne – Trouble
Over the Rhine – Good Dog, Bad Dog
Tom Petty – Wildflowers
U2 – The Joshua Tree
Van Morrison – Moondance
Bob Dylan – Blood on the Tracks
Fleet Foxes – Fleet Foxes
Elliott Smith – Either/Or
Just an FYI – there are a couple of Central Iowa radio stations that tout local and regional talent on a regular basis. Both of these fine stations play Finn Miles music, and both are open to requests or receiving feedback.
I bought a FMR RNP (really nice preamp) off Ebay and it was missing a knob. I called up Mark McQuilken and he said he’d send me some knobs right away (even though I bought it used) and reiterated that they’re interested in keeping the RNP up and running at it’s full ability.
Wow. Who does that?
I love the preamp; it’s really highly rated and it really fits my mobile recording system nicely. I highly suggested FMR products; I’ve used the RNP and the RNLA with great success.
Ladies and gentlemen take notes…this is how you do customer service!
As expected, we had an incredible time with Dan Bosman of “Scented Vinyl” at the Mars Cafe for our Modern Saints EP release celebration. Dan spun some great records as we chatted about our new EP, releasing the new CD from the box in front of the crowd, prompting one participant to wave money until he got THE FIRST CD.
Celebration continued with free CDs for the band and design team, as well as a mini-acoustic show that ended in a chorus of applause and hoots.
