Des Moines Artist Jonathan Pearson – Finn Miles Collaborator

Posted: December 5th, 2010 | Author: napkinsketch | Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: , , , , , , , , , | No Comments »

Des Moines, IA is bustling with fantastic, severely underrated artists…but I’m confident that won’t be the case for long. One of my longtime collaborators and a local artist, Jonathan Pearson is currently hard at work on new posters, as well as T-shirt and album design for the soon to be released “Modern Saints EP.” Jon works at 8/7 Central doing design work during the daytime, and in the evening he crafts his own unique paintings, as well as helps up and coming musicians (like Finn Miles) to look their best, raising the bar for the local music and art scene.

Kudos Mr. Pearson.

Rediscovering Wilco

Posted: June 7th, 2010 | Author: finnmiles | Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: , , , | No Comments »

I first heard Wilco in college and thought “Eh, these guys are ok, nothin’ special.”

I’m now eating my words.

The best bands make it sound so easy. The best writers find lines that sound as natural as being born.

Listen to Kicking Television, and enjoy some classic Wilco.

Finn Miles + Gracious Audience == Great time in Des Moines, IA

We pulled out the art supplies and before we knew it pipe cleaner art was everywhere! It turns out that the guys from Why Make Clocks are quite the artists (Pac Man, Star Wars, and other creative elements were bent and formulated by WMC). Also, if you haven’t heard Why Make Clocks plan an acoustic set you’re really missing out; their songs shine in an intimate setting like the Mars Cafe.

Also, congratulations to H. Dustin Harmsen of the Atudes on a wildly successful opening acoustic set, as well as the Atudes CD release…which is tonight!

Thanks Sam!

Thanks Sam!

You might recognize something familiar about this Dwolla highlight of Des Moines local T-shirt company 8/7 Central…

They’re using Finn Miles music, and we’re glad.

8/7 Central are good friends and make great shirts. Dwolla might reinvent how E-commerce is handled. We’re glad to be in such good company with innovative and well-thought folks.

We’re glad to be in an area with so many thinkers and artists…so I’ve got to announce our involvement in Tinybooks!

Here’s the basic idea:

The Tinybooks writers group will meet once a month at various locations around Des Moines. Each writer will sign in and receive a stack of notecards or scrap paper to write on. A topic will be announced, as well as any insight into the physical writing space that may spark creativity.

Check it out!
