On Nov. 20th a group of talented singers, songwriters, and thinkers joined forces in Des Moines, IA to hold the first ever FolksGiving Benefit, raising donations for the Central Iowa Homeless Youth Shelters. Napkin Sketch was on hand, capturing video and sound, providing record of the musical, magical evening.
Finn Miles unveiled a new song, “Warm warm heart” for the event…listen and watch below!
In preparation for the fantastic billing for FolksGiving I suggest a few little preparation points.
1. Bring your admission. $5 Donation or hats, gloves, canned food donation will get you in the door. Remember, generosity is the key to the door of FolksGiving!
2.Check out the bands…warm up your voice…sing along!
3. Be a friend! FolksGiving is a community event, so either come with friends, or make some friends at the show. FolksGiving will be held in the comfy 4th Street Theater attached to Java Joe’s in downtown Des Moines, IA.
Ah, dear fans, I apologize for the lack of content in the last months. Life has been its usual continuous transition as I’ve moved several times throughout Iowa over the last year. I’m now starting to put down roots in the Iowa capital city of Des Moines. It’s exciting to be able to watch the music scene grow in leaps and bounds since I’ve been out here. Great musical acts are emerging and putting their hands in the expansion of the artistic community and branching out to serve the rest of the city. A shining example of community service is Danny Heggen, who has been a strong advocate for the homeless youth of Des Moines through his published collection of stories that was released earlier this year. Apart from that, Heggen performs under the name ‘Seedlings’ in Des Moines playing sweetly sung acoustic folk music. Give a listen and see what I mean.
We had a great show in Altoona, IA at Being There Coffee last Saturday…even if you couldn’t make it we hope you enjoy a few video clips from the event!
